Spring Tips Summer Tips Autumn Tips Winter Tips |
Spring Automotive TipsAs we progress into the summer months, all of us at Hoff's Automotive would like to inform you of the best way to keep your vehicle running in great condition. Keeping cool is essential - both under the hood and in your vehicle. The following tips will help you and your vehicle to have a safe and happy summer: Oil: Replace your oil and filter as specified in your owner's manual. Most cars suggest an oil change every three months or 3,000 miles. Air conditioning: Have your system examined by a qualified technician. Make sure that your system is working adequately. Cooling System: The highest cause of breakdowns during the summer months is overheating. Have a service professional thoroughly check your cooling system. It is recommended to have your system flushed every 24 months with 50/50 mix of antifreeze and water. Keeping the antifreeze level, condition & concentration accurate is important in both the winter (freeze-up) and in the summer (boil-over). Over time contaminated antifreeze may shorten the life of the radiator, water-pump and hoses. Tires: Check the condition and air pressure of your tires. The correct air pressure will maximize your gas mileage and save the tires from premature wear. Have your tires checked as soon as possible if any visible damage (such as bulges and cuts) is noticed. Remember to check your spare tire too. Windshield Wipers: Replace torn or worn wiper blades and fill up the washer solvent. The best way to see clearly while driving is to have a clean windshield. Engine Performance and Batteries: Keep up with your maintenance schedule. It's important to tune up your vehicle to keep the engine running smoothly. Inspect your battery and cables for corrosion. It's a lot easier to replace your battery than to have one go bad on the side of the road. Pre-Trip Inspection and Check Engine Light: Always consider having a certified technician fully inspect your vehicle before any trip. Repairs needed on the road may be more high-priced and can disrupt your vacation plans. Never leave for a long road trip with your Check Engine light on. This is a warning that your vehicle has a malfunction. Have this problem diagnosed by a qualified repair shop. These are only a few suggestions to help your vehicle survive the hot summer. The summer's heat, dust and traffic will take a toll on your vehicle and the best advice is to continue servicing your car when required. Have a safe and happy Summer! |
